Garage Band

I found this tutorial on Garage Band, it is very resourceful.  Its easy to use once you get the hang of it but can be very difficult if you don't know what your doing!

Mom

mom

This is my mom, one of the most beautiful people to ever live on this earth.  As most of you know, she lost her battle with cancer on June 16, 2008, she was only 57 years old:(  This photo was taken at my sister Annie's wedding and such a tribute to my mom.  The photographer captured the way she always was, in awe of everything around her and loving life each day that it was here.  Cancer took her life way tooo soon, I pray they find a cure for this awful disease.  You can always help by donating to the American Cancer Society.

Environmental Portraits

Our next assignment for Photojournalism is to take an environmental portrait of someone.  This image should be taken in a place that the subject lives (work, rest or play) in and should tell us something about who they are.  I found this article on Digital Photography's School website and it has alot of helpful tips on taking an environmental portrait.

I saw a Werewolf with an umbrella in his hands...

On halloween night,  Josh and I joined our friends Brian and Sarah Steely and their little ones Dylan and Stella for some trick or treating.  Stella was Dorothy and Dylan was Thomas the Train.  Thanks to the Steely's for letting us join them.  Josh was a werewolf and had fun scaring some of the kids.  Check out the expression on their faces!

A Flattering Model Pose

I have been doing alot of research for my glamour/fashion/fantasy photo shoot in advanced portraiture.  To get the best shot I need to be able to tell my subject how to properly pose.  I found this video on how to pose your model for the most flattering photo.  This will come in handy for my assignment.

Fantasy/Fashion Photographer

I have been researching fashion and fantasy photographers for our assignment in advanced portraiture and came across David LaChapelle.  His images are very unique and original.  He has worked with many celebrities and was once called the fellini of photography.  Check out his website, his work is amazing.

Using gels in studio lighting

I found this video that has great tips on how to use gels in studio lighting.  We are going to be doing holiday portraits soon so we need to know how to properly light our background and our subjects.  Gels may be used to spice up the photo and give a different color to the background.

I got a Feature!!

Here is the feature that Ms. Finch picked for my assignment.  This is Barkley and his family at the Doguroo costume contest this past weekend in Atlantic Station .  He won the scariest dog costume, way to go Barkley and family!

Yar pirates!

Halloween Dog Costume Contest

This past weekend I went to the Doguroo festival in Central Park in Atlantic Station.  I got alot of good shots and hopefully a "feature" image, but also entered my dogs Marley and Bella in a costume contest. They were dressed as a pimp and a ho. We didn't win, but it was alot of fun and they did great walking the runway.

Low Key Picks

Mask

Lindsey
Here are two of the low key assignment photos that Mrs. Harkins picked.  I took the one of Amanda in the mask to test the lights and didn't think it would be one that was picked but Mrs. Harkins liked it alot.   The other photos if of my friend Lindsey who was my model for this shoot.  You never know what they are going to choose!

Fill Flash

For our next assignment in Photojournalism, we are going to be using our flash to fill the photo.  I found this article on Canon's website that has some great tips on how to use your fill flash effectively to get the correct exposure.

Empire State Building lights up in honor of the The Grateful Dead

Legendary jamband icons The Grateful Dead were honored Monday night by "tie-dying " the top of the Empire State Building . The building-topping lights, and hopefully not your minds, were altered in celebration of the upcoming exhibit at the New-York Historical Society .

More feature photos

This Saturday I am going down to Atlantic Station  to get photos of the Doguroo festival.  This event benefits the Atlanta Humane Society .  I am looking for my "feature" photo and this should be a great place to capture that.  I am going to enter my pups Marley and Bella in the dog costume contest.  They are going dressed as a pimp and ho dog, wish us luck!

Flyer is ready!

The holiday portrait flyer is ready, its time to advertise!  Damian and his team did an awesome job on this, the color is perfect for our set!  Way to go guys!!!

Construction has begun!

We have started work on the holiday portrait set.  My group is in charge of setting up the waiting room and all the decorations.  Our theme is Dr. Suess and its going to be a great background for these holiday photos!  Please come out and get your photo starting on November 12th.  Big thanks to Lisa and Amanda for doing a great job getting our team organized.

Studio Lighting

In this Photography program, we are learning how to light our subjects and take our photos to the next level.  In order to move to the next level, you should be looking at which kind of lighting you will need to purchase to make your images successful.  I found this article on photo.net on how to choose studio lighting.  This is very helpful for me because I will need to purchase my own lighting in order to be a better photographer.

A Different Kind of Photography

I came across photographer Chris Jordan and was fascinated by his work.  He goes into the deeper side of life and shows the vast and bizarre measures of our society.  The above photo was part of his series called Running with Numbers which looks at American culture through the austere lens of statistics.  This photo of Snoopy and Charlie Brown depicts ten thousand dog and cat collars, which is equal to the average number of unwanted dogs and cats euthanized every day.  It was assembled by thousands of other photographs.

Where is the Sun?

Path in Paradise
Its pouring rain outside in Atlanta today and I'm dreaming of being in Florida on this path.  I took this image last December in Casey Key, it was a beautiful day.

Casting Call

Big blue eyes!  Please vote for my little nephew and godson, Henry Fisk.  He is trying to be the new little Gap model.  You can vote by clicking here.

Flash Time

Its time to buy a flash unit for my camera so I have begun looking at some models and which one would be a good fit for my Canon.  I found this article on Shutterbug and it has some great tips for the new flash units out there.  I hope to make this purchase soon.

The Georgia Theatre

The Georgia Theatre is located in Athens, Georgia and is a cornerstone of the world-renowned Athens music scene. Legendary artists like The Police , Dave Matthews Band , Widespread Panic , and more recently David Bryne and Beck have played memorable shows in this historic venue. The Georgia Theatre remains a favorite of bands and music lovers for its intimate charm and epic concerts. A fire destroyed the theatre in late June of this year. Since then, the owner has been trying to raise money through donations and fundraisers to rebuild it. This past Wednesday, The Athens Historic Preservation Commission voted to grant the owner of the Georgia Theatre permission to raise the mark structure from the ashes of a fire that destroyed the building. Whoohooo, this is great news!! Donations are needed so if you can help please click here.

Baci's Story

Keep Baci in the South from Nicole Cochran on Vimeo.
Last quarter in my Multimedia class, we had to make a slideshow that showed a viewpoint, opinion and or perspective and it could be funny or serious. I did mine on Baci, my sister's Bichon Frise who had been living with us in Atlanta for the past year and it was time for him to go home.  We didn't want him to leave so we protested to keep him in the South.

Chicago

Chicago is my kind of town.  Its my birthplace and where most of my family lives, so I get to visit alot.  I was there in September and went up to the 103rd floor in the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) and walked out on the new Sky Deck.  Its a glass ledge with some of the best views in the city and my husband and I got a good shot, it was scary out there looking down through the glass!

David Gans

David Gans is known as the light behind the widely syndicated Grateful Dead hour radio program, several books on the Dead and a number of intriguing CDs related to the band and its music.  In recent years, David has developed a solid following nationwide for his compelling songs and music.  This past weekend I got to see David play at a friend of Amanda's house.  The performance was very touching.

Steal that face right off your pumpkin

This is my friend's pumpkin carving of the Grateful Dead's Steal Your Face album cover.  This album was recorded live in concert between October 16 and October 20, 1974 at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom as part of the band's then-"farewell run."

Caden

Last Monday we took photos of children here in the studio.  My friend Brian brought in his son Caden who is 2 years old.  It was difficult at first because Caden didn't want to go into the set, but once we got him comfortable I was able to get some nice images.  Here are a few of them.

Amanda , Damian  and I are going to help each other, it will be fun to see what we end up with!

Concert Photography

This past weekend we saw Widespread Panic in Birmingham, what an awesome show!  Here are some images that Ian Rawn took of John Bell, Sonny Ortiz and Dave Schools.  He did an amazing job at capturing the look on the band's faces.  I hope to be able to do photography like this very soon!

Pets

Last week we did a photo shoot on animals.  I brought in my 2 beagle mixes, Marley and Bella and it was very challenging.  They were both scared and confused but I did manage to get a few good shots.
